HC Deb 10 July 1990 vol 176 cc120-1W
Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the strategy of the ministerial groups on women's issues to encourage the growth of child care facilities.

Mr. John Patten

The ministerial group on women's issues believes that high quality in the provision of child care should be encouraged. To this end, the group has agreed a range of measures designed to maintain and improve the standards of child care for those parents who choose to combine their family responsibilities with employment opportunities.

Summaries of the initiatives on child care agreed by the group are contained in the press releases issued after the group's meetings in April 1989 and February 1990, copies of which have been placed in the Library.
