HL Deb 09 July 1990 vol 521 cc107-8WA
Lord Tryon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why a holder of both a shot gun certificate and firearms certificate can obtain coterminous certificates for both on the expiry of the existing firearms certificate but not on the expiry of the existing shotgun certificate.

Earl Ferrers

Under the Firearms Acts 1968–88, the criteria governing grant or renewal are more stringent for a firearm certificate than for a shot gun certificate. Section 11 of the 1988 Act provides, therefore, that on the expiry of an existing shot gun certificate it can be renewed to expire on the same date as the holder's existing firearm certificate.
