To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects new trunk road provision to serve east-west transportation and movement in South Yorkshire.

Mr. Atkins

There are no proposals at present for a new east-west trunk road in South Yorkshire. Barnsley metropolitan district council has included a proposal for a link between the M1 and the A1, the "Dearne towns link road", in its forward plans. I understand that it hopes to complete the route by the mid-1990s.
