§ Mr. ButlerTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps have been taken to ensure that there is ample provision within the national curriculum to allow for taking the three main sciences separately to O-level standard.
§ Mrs. RumboldThe national curriculum for science sets out a balanced science curriculum. This includes the material from the three main sciences appropriate at GCSE level as a basis for further study in the separate sciences at A-level. It will be possible for schools to cover the curriculum through separate subject science teaching but decisions on the proposed arrangements for assessment of science at age 16 have not yet been taken.
