§ Mr. GouldTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether either his Department or the Nature Conservancy Council will be represented on the United Kingdom delegation to the special consultative meeting of Antarctic treaty parties to discuss comprehensive measures for the protection of the Antarctic environment to be held in Santiago, Chile in November.
§ Mr. Chris Patten[holding answer 29 June 1990]: The composition of the United Kingdom delegation to the meeting in Santiago has not yet been decided. I will consider the matter in due course with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs who has overall responsibility for the Government's policy on the Antarctic.
§ Mr. GouldTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he or his Department have had with conservation experts in Australia with regard to the Australian Government's refusal to sign the convention for the regulation of Antarctic minerals resources and proposals to declare Antarctica a wilderness reserve.
