HC Deb 31 January 1990 vol 166 c227W
Mr. Wilshire

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make it his policy to resist all proposals from airlines to increase night flights or to reduce the period covered by night flight restrictions at Heathrow airport.

Mr. McLoughlin

The present night restrictions regime at Heathrow was introduced in 1988 and runs until 1992–3. We have no plans to alter it.

Mr. Wilshire

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make it his policy to resist all proposals to end the daily runway alternation at Heathrow airport.

Mr. McLoughlin

Government policy on aircraft noise is as set out in the White Paper "Airport Policy", published in June 1985 (Cmnd. 9542). Runway alternation at Heathrow is cited as an example of a noise abatement measure that the Government will continue to encourage (para 8.8).
