To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is in a position to estimate the number of orders for new passenger ferry vessels for Caledonian MacBrayne which are likely to be placed with United Kingdom shipyards over the next five years.

[holding answer 29 January 1990]: Caledonian MacBrayne estimates that it will replace up to four major passenger ferry vessels and four minor passenger ferry vessels over the next five years.
