Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what advice his Department has given to the electricity supply industry as to the method of flue gas desulphurisation;

(2) what consideration his Department has given to the comparative environmental costs of (a) the regenerative method and (b) the limestone-gypsum method of flue gas desulphurisation.

The choice of FGD process is a matter for the industry.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received as to the method of flue gas desulphurisation that will be fitted to power stations.

A few representations were received some time ago favouring the regenerative FGD process, but none has been received recently. The choice of FGD process is a matter for the industry.
