§ Mr. HannamTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give(a) the figures of business rate contribution to Exeter city council for the following years: 1987–88, 1988–89 and 1989–90, (b) the expected business 64W Contractors since 22 November 1989; and whether he has made any assessment of the effects on Her Majesty's pollution inspectorate of the code of self-regulation.
§ Mr. TrippierMy hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the Member for Wells (Mr. Heathcoat-Amory) met the chairman and representatives of the National Association of Waste Disposal Contractors on 17 January. During the course of wide-ranging discussions the association's code of self-regulation was not specifically discussed. But the Department is aware of the code which we see as a positive step in promoting the necessary high standards that should prevail throughout waste management. Adoption of the code will not affect the work of Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution in regard to its responsibilities for waste as these rest primarily in monitoring the performance of the waste disposal authorities and in setting a framework of national standards for waste management practice.
