HC Deb 29 January 1990 vol 166 c44W
Mr. Amos

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what provisions are being made in all the offices and other places under his Department's control for the convenience and comfort of non-smokers; and if he will make a statement on his Department's policy for non-smokers.

Mr. Freeman

It is the Department's policy to move as quickly as possible, after local discussion and agreement, to provide a smoke-free environment for those staff who wish it at all workplaces and other areas within its offices not covered by a mandatory ban on smoking. The mandatory ban covers places such as stationery stores, computer rooms, first aid rooms, food preparation areas and confined spaces with limited ventilation. Many individual offices are already smoke-free by the agreement of the occupants.
