HL Deb 29 January 1990 vol 515 c151WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the judicial resources of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in England and Wales, and whether there are any proposals to increase such resources.

The Lord Chancellor

The judicial resources of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in England and Wales consist of the President, a High Court judge, who sits permanently in the Employment Appeal Tribunal and those other judges of the High Court who have been nominated by the Lord Chancellor to sit in the Tribunal from time to time under Section 135 of the Employment Protection Consolidation Act 1978. In 1989, besides the President, one other High Court judge sat in the Tribunal for eight weeks. In consultation with the senior judiciary, the Lord Chancellor is exploring a number of ways of providing additional judicial support for the President of the Tribunal.
