HC Deb 29 January 1990 vol 166 cc47-8W
86. Mr. Geraint Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what new proposals the Government have to reduce the debt burden of developing nations.

Mrs. Chalker

The United Kingdom has played a prominent part in the measures agreed over the last few years to assist heavily indebted countries pursuing economic reforms. The priority for these countries now is to continue with the implementation of reforms to lay the basis for long-term growth. The United Kingdom will continue to play a constructive part in discussions of the debt strategy in the relevant international forums.
