§ Mr. Norman LamontThe available information relates to net central Government expenditure on research and development analysed by the European Community objectives, industrial production and technology, research financed from general university funds and defence. For the United Kingdom the information for 1987–88, 1988–89 and 1989–90 was published in table 7 on page 95 of the August 1989 issue of "Economic Trends", a copy of which is in the Library. Comparable figures for France and West Germany for the years available are given in the table
