§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe current prison building programme is, at nearly £14 million for 1989–90, the largest to date. The projects included in the programme are carefully prioritised to ensure that the most urgent work is carried out first. This includes, in particular, work relating to security, health and safety, hygiene, medical provision and the improvement of inmate and staff accommodation.
