Whether any independent study is currently being carried out (and if so by whom) to establish the efficacy of IVF/ET (incidence of pregnancies, miscarriages, healthy births, perinatal mortality, demand for intensive care, etc), what are its costs to individuals and to the National Health Service, and to what degree it would be considered an "established" or an "experimental" procedure.
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hooper)The Interim Licensing Authority, which was established by the Medical Research Council and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, produces an annual report containing data from the centres which it has approved. This report, a copy of which is in the Library, contains the type of information requested. Information on the costs of treatment is not available centrally.
