Whether they will state the number of British civil servants working in the British Embassies in: (1) USSR, (2) USA, (3) Australia, (4) France, (5) Federal Republic of Germany, (6) Italy, (7) Belgium, (8) Japan, (9) the UK Permanent Representative to the European Community.

The numbers of UK-based members of HM Diplomatic Service and the Home Civil Service in British diplomatic missions in each of the countries mentioned are:

1. Soviet Union 62
2. United States (of whom 244 are in Washington and 56 in subordinate posts. Additionally, the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York has 44) 300
3. Australia (of whom 38 are in Canberra and 24 in subordinate posts) 62
4. France(of whom 86 are in Paris and six in subordinate posts. Additionally, the United Kingdom Delegation to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has seven; and the United Kingdom Permanent Delegation to the Council of Europe has five) 92
5. Federal Republic of Germany (of whom 83 are in Bonn and 47 in subordinate posts) 130
6. Italy (of whom 41 are in Rome and 10 in subordinate posts) 51
7. Belgium (additionally, the United Kingdom Delegation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has 47) 35
8. Japan (of whom 51 are in Tokyo and three in Osaka) 54
