HC Deb 25 January 1990 vol 165 cc823-4W
Mr. Conway

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will announce the results of the survey of bathing water quality made in 1989; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The results for the survey carried out during the 1989 bathing season showed that all of the 16 identified bathing waters in Northern Ireland met the mandatory coliform bacteria standards of the EC bathing water directive. The corresponding figure for 1988 was 14.

The 1989 results for Northern Ireland are set out in summary form. Arrangements have been made to place a more detailed summary of the results in the Library and also to send copies to the Commission of the European Communities.
