HC Deb 22 January 1990 vol 165 cc571-2W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the proposals he will be putting to the North sea conference later in the current year.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

I have been asked to reply.

One of the main objectives of the third North sea conference is to review the work undertaken by member states in implementing the recommendations of the second North sea conference held in London 1987. As with its predecessor, the third conference will review all the major activities with an impact on the marine environment, including discharges of dangerous substances via rivers and the atmosphere, nutrients, dumping, shipping and offshore installations. The United Kingdom has taken a very full part in preparations for the conference and I am confident that the conference declaration, which will be the product of work by all the North sea states, will include valuable new measures, including a number proposed by the United Kingdom.
