HC Deb 22 January 1990 vol 165 c504W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many representations he has received from bodies opposed to the definition of a consumer guarantee in legislation; and how many of these bodies did not give evidence on the subject to the National Consumer Council.

Mr. Forth

A formal public consultation exercise has not been undertaken, but, following publication of the National Consumer Council report "The Consumer Guarantee", representations have been made both for and against the proposed overall approach and on various detailed aspects. It would be inappropriate to quantify the bodies involved in the same way as it would be to name them, since their views have been expressed in confidence.
