§ Mr. Menzies CampbellTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the transfrontier shipment of toxic waste within the European Community.
§ Mr. TrippierTransfrontier shipment of hazardous waste into, out of or within the Community is subject to control under existing EC directives. Discussion is taking place in Brussels to revise these directives and to implement the Basel convention on transfrontier shipment. It is the Government's view that international waste movements should be reduced to the environmentally justified minimum and those that are necessary should be subject to effective monitoring and control.
