HC Deb 15 January 1990 vol 165 c37W
17. Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received about traffic congestion in urban areas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

I receive regular representations on the problem of congestion in urban areas, particularly in London where it is most acute. I have recently published a discussion document "Traffic in London" inviting comments on my proposed initiatives for tackling congestion in London. The proposals aim to improve the quality and capacity of the capital's transport network to benefit public and private transport users, residents and businesses.
