HL Deb 15 January 1990 vol 514 c509WA
Lord Merrivale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider reviewing the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 and the subsequent Use Class Order 1987, particularly relating to class CI (Hotels and Hostels), so as to avoid unsuitable developments in residential areas, and more particularly in conservation areas.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh)

The Government are commissioning independent research into the effects of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 including the impact of the hotels and hostels use class (C1). The research is due to be undertaken from January to June 1990.
