HL Deb 15 January 1990 vol 514 cc509-10WA
Baroness Gardner of Parkes

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, under the proposals for recovery of capital charges in the National Health Service and Community Care Bill, the Institute of Dental Surgery, at present housed entirely in NHS accommodation provided by the Eastman Dental Hospital Special Health Authority, will be required to pay the full economic rent for its accommodation in the future.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hooper)

Under the proposals in the NHS and Community Care Bill, all health authorities, including special health authorities, will be required to pay capital charges on the capital assets, including land and buildings, which they hold.

The impact of the capital charges which will apply to the Eastman Dental Hospital is still under consideration. Special health authorities, unless they become NHS trusts, will continue to be funded by the Department of Health and the impact of capital charges will be considered in that context.
