HC Deb 15 January 1990 vol 165 cc31-2W
Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if during his service with the Metropolitan police, Detective Superintendent David Palmer-Hall was seconded for work with the Jordanian Government.

Mr. Waddington

No.

Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the Metropolitan police as to how long and in what capacities Mr. David Palmer-Hall was employed by the Metropolitan police.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Mr. Palmer-Hall joined the Metropolitan police in 1950 and retired in 1980. He served in Special Branch from 1952 until his retirement.

Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for reports from the chief constables of Surrey and Hampshire on the progress of their investigations into the disappearance over 24 hours of former Detective Superintendent David Palmer-Hall.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I understand from the chief constable of Surrey, whose force was in charge of the inquiry into the disappearance, that the police have completed their investigation and it has not revealed any criminal activity relating to former Detective Superintendent Palmer-Hall's brief absence from home.

Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what employment Mr. David Palmer-Hall has had with Her Majesty's Government since 1982.

Mr. Waddington

There is no record that Mr. Palmer-Hall was employed by the Home Office during the relevant period. My Department does not maintain records of employment in other Departments.
