HC Deb 10 January 1990 vol 164 c627W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what are the reasons for the current delay in the construction of the western section of the M1/A1 link road;

(2) what is the daily traffic flow on the A427 between Market Harborough and Lutterworth at the latest available date; and what is the projected flow (a) in five years' time, and (b) in 10 years' time, in the absence of an M1/A1 link;

(3) when he now expects to commence construction of the M1/A1 link road between Kettering and Lutterworth.

Mr. Atkins

The western section of the link road from Catthorpe to Kettering is divided into four contracts. Those for the Catthorpe interchange and the Rothwell-Kettering section are to be let shortly. Further progress on the two intermediate contracts is subject to the outcome of a public inquiry in February into objections to draft supplementary orders.

Approximate traffic flows on the A427 without the M1-A1 link road would be as follows:

Vehicles per day
Present 1995 2000
9,000–10,000 10,000–12,000 11,000–14,000
