§ Mr. HaywardTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many officials specifically designated to deal with trade relations there were at each578W embassy or consulate in each Warsaw pact country in April 1989; and how many he expects to be in post in April 1990.
§ Mr. MaudeAs of April 1989 there were 46 staff specifically dealing with commercial and economic affairs in the Soviet Union and eastern Europe countries which are members of the Warsaw pact, in addition to the ambassadors and their deputies in each post who of course have commercial roles. The distribution was as follows:
Number USSR 13 Poland 7 Hungary 6 Czechoslovakia 6 GDR 5 Bulgaria 4 Romania 5 There are no plans at present to increase commercial staff in these countries. The situation in each is however kept under review, in consultation with the British Overseas Trade Board and the Department of Trade and Industry.
