§ Mr. Ridley[holding answer 21 December 1989]: The Department of Trade and Industry has recently spent the following amounts in order to encourage the use of advanced technology (including computer-aided design CAD) in schools and further education colleges.

The 1987 further education figure includes £2.2 million spent on a scheme limited to CAD.
