HC Deb 27 February 1990 vol 168 c103W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Minister for the Arts if he will make a statement on his policy in relation to the Icklingham treasure.

Mr. Luce

I do not think it would be appropriate for me to comment on this particular matter while it is still under police investigation. I have kept in close touch with developments and had a number of meetings with those involved. In the meantime, my noble Friend Lord Hesketh has announced in another place the plans of the Secretary of State for the Environment to amend the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, with a view to strengthening legislative controls on scheduled sites.
