To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to reduce the number of houses requiring land provision by Solihull council, contained in his strategic guidance for the west midlands published in February 1988 from 7,500 to 7,000.

The housing figures in the strategic guidance for the west midlands (now incorporated in planning policy guidance note 10) were confirmed after extensive discussions with the relevant local authority in 1988. They are now being used in structure and unitary plan preparation. Any change in one component would have repercussions elsewhere and I cannot agree to make this proposed reduction.
