HC Deb 26 February 1990 vol 168 c15W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many persons have left Hong Kong over the most recent 12 months for which figures are available: and if he has any record of the nations to which they have moved.

Mr. Maude

The Hong Kong Government estimate that about 42,000 people left the territory during the calendar year 1989. Of these, some 95 per cent. went to the four most popular destination countries which are Canada, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand.
