HC Deb 21 February 1990 vol 167 cc775-6W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people charged with terrorist-type offences were employed in Government offices and in the SPED dwellings department of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Mr. Cope

[holding answer 14 February 1990]: I am not aware of anyone employed in Government offices being charged with terrorist-type offences. Under both the Northern Ireland and Home Civil Service codes, a civil servant is required to report to his Department if he is arrested and refused bail or if he is convicted. He is not required to report that he has been charged.

I am advised by the chief executive of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive that no person employed in the Executive's SPED department has been charged with terrorist-type offences.
