Mr. John D. TaylorTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans there are to reduce the fishing effort in the North sea; what are the implications for fishing in the western waters of the United Kingdom; whether he has any proposals to reduce the overall size of the United Kingdom fishing fleet; and if he will make a statement about the displacement of part of the United Kingdom fleets in the North sea to the Irish sea.
§ Mr. CurryI hope to make an announcement soon on arrangements to reduce North sea haddock fishing in 1990. Access to pressure stocks and non-pressure stocks in other sea areas will remain restricted to those vessels holding appropriate licences. I also hope shortly to announce new quota management arrangements which will begin the process of bringing the size of the fleet into line with the available fishing opportunities.
