§ Mr. SainsburyAbout £30.7 million in 1988–89, of which £23 million was on direct teaching by the British Council, covered by income generated. The remainder was made up of FCO scholarships, ODA schemes and BBC World Service English programmes. Expenditure in the current financial year is expected to be about 5 per cent. higher.
