§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryThe Department has to date received just over 200 representations alleging anticompetitive practices by local authorities in respect of services put out to tender under the terms of the Local756W Government Act 1988 and about 35 relating to services put out to tender under the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980. Each case is investigated and appraised on its merits. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has powers of sanction under the legislation and is prepared to use them where necessary.
