BennettTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the effect of the use of waste disposal units in kitchen sinks in(a) reducing problems for waste disposal authorities and (b) increasing problems for water companies in respect of both volumes of water used and type of sewage to be treated.
§ Mr. TrippierMy Department has in the past assessed the effect of sink grinders both in reducing the weight of domestic waste requiring disposal and in increasing water usage and sludge production. The benefits and drawbacks of grinders are being kept under review.
