To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number of scientists employed at the Institute of Food Research at(a) Reading, (b) Norwich and (c) Bristol at the beginning of each of (i) 1988, (ii) 1989, (iii) 1990 and (iv) 1991.

The figures in the following table refer to scientists employed, or expected to be employed, as at 1 April in each year. Those for 1990 and 1991 are estimates. The table excludes vacancies but includes period appointments.
