To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the name and number of every circular issued by his Department since June 1979; and what monitoring is done for their implementation.

Since 1979 the Home Office has issued each year an average of about 75 circulars to local and police authorities. A list giving details of these circulars is prepared quarterly and a copy sent to the Clerk to the Select Committee on Home Affairs. To list the name and number of every circular and to establish what monitoring has been done for their implementation would require a disproportionate use of resources.
