To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in view of current industrial action by polytechnic lecturers, he will take steps to ensure that students at the polytechnic of the South Bank are able to sit their final examinations during the current academic year and that such examinations will be marked in order to enable successful candidates to obtain degree qualifications.

This is a matter for the authorities of the polytechnic. Proposals for an interim settlement of the dispute are currently subject to a ballot.
