HC Deb 15 February 1990 vol 167 c337W
51. Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the total interest paid on savings in each of the last three years.

Mr. Ryder

Payments to the personal sector of dividends and interest on financial assets of all kinds amounted to £35.1 billion in 1986, £38.1 billion in 1987 and £45.4 billion in 1988. These figures are gross of tax. They include income on savings in the form of equity in life assurance and pension funds, and may be found in table 3.7 of the United Kingdom National Accounts "Blue Book" or on the CSO databank which is accessible through the Library.
