To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what financial arrangements are being made for the disposal costs of the low-level and intermediate-level wastes produced at Sellafield due to the reprocessing of nuclear fuel rods.

Under the terms of contracts which BNFL has for reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel the costs of disposing of the vast majority of low and intermediate level wastes arising fall to BNFL's customers. BNFL makes provision in its accounts for those costs which do not fall to customers.
