To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement about the economy in the northern region.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The Government's economic policies have created the conditions for greatly increased prosperity in the northern region. The fall in the unemployment rate over the last year has been one of the fastest in the United Kingdom.
