To ask the Minister for the Arts what recent studies he has commissioned of the consequences of compulsory charges to enter galleries and museums.

Mr. Luce

The Government's repeatedly stated policy is that the decision whether or not to operate a system of admission charges, or voluntary donations, should be for the board of trustees responsible for each institution.

Similarly, it is for the trustees of each institution to decide whether or not to commission studies into the consequences of charges.
