HC Deb 09 February 1990 vol 166 c816W
Mr. Boyes

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his policy in relation to naval arms control.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

NATO's current priorities in arms control were set out in "The Alliance's Comprehensive Concept" in May 1989. In the conventional field this called primarily for the establishment of a secure and stable balance of conventional forces in Europe at lower levels. Naval forces are, by the agreement of all parties, specifically excluded from the CFE negotiations.
