HC Deb 07 February 1990 vol 166 c700W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Indian Government about its suppression of the nationalist uprising in Kashmir.

Mr. Maude

We have made clear in our regular contacts with the Indian and Pakistan Governments that we believe the status of Kashmir can be settled only by agreement between the two sides. We have also made clear that we have no sympathy with those who espouse violence for political ends.
