To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which United Kingdom bathing waters failed to meet European Community standards for salmonella bacteria in the 1989 bathing waters survey.

My hon. Friend the Minister of State for the Environment announced on 25 January, (Official Report, 25 January 1990, column 785) the results of the 1989 survey of bathing waters for England and Wales, and stated that a detailed summary of the results would be placed in the Library. Detailed results for individual waters, including numbers of samples taken for particular parameters and the number of these which failed to meet the directive's mandatory standards, are given in this report, copies of which have now been placed in the Library.
