HC Deb 06 February 1990 vol 166 c549W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether he intends to ensure a comprehensive range of health care services within each health authority in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

The provisions of the National Health Service and Community Care Bill place a clear duty on district health authorities to secure an adequate range, quality and depth of services for their local populations. As now, some services will need to be provided to patients outside their district health authority of residence. In determining arrangements for the treatment of their residents, health authorities will wish to reconcile the need for service, quality of access to service, and value for money in the mode of provision.
