Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of local authority expenditure in 1990–91 he estimates will be met by community charge payers.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Until details of local authorities' budgets are available it is not possible to estimate what proportion of their expenditure in 1990–91 is to be met by community charge payers. The proportion indicated in budget returns for the current year is 21 per cent.
