HC Deb 02 February 1990 vol 166 c405W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the stipulations which his Department has imposed upon the design of the proposed Skye toll bridge and the reasons for so doing.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

My Department has asked that the bridge should have a minimum height clearance of 34 m above mean high water springs, or 36 m if a tidal gauge is installed. This is to ensure that the channel can be used by ships of up to and including destroyer or frigate size as well as by the vessels of the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service, which regularly use the channel en route to the range at Raasay.
