HC Deb 01 February 1990 vol 166 cc330-1W
20. Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he last raised the Irish Government's restrictions on the freedom of movement of southern Irish shoppers into Northern Ireland at a meeting of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference.

Mr. Cope

We have raised with the Irish Government on several occasions recently, within the Conference and elsewhere, the restrictions they have imposed on travellers' allowances. The European Court will now decide on the legality of the restrictions: its hearing will take place on 21 February, and the United Kingdom Government will be represented.
