§ Mr. PawseyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what arrangements he has made for the enforcement of the general duties placed on water companies by sections 37 and 67 of the Water Act 1989 to provide water supply and sewerage in their areas.
§ Mr. TrippierThese duties hitherto have been enforceable by my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Wales. Under a general authorisation given by my right hon. Friends, they are now enforceable by the Director General of Water Services, and he will deal with any complaint that a company has not fulfilled its statutory duties.
